What better way to enjoy the Fox River than from a kayak amongst your fellow community members? Then, what better cause is there to support than providing children in need with essential resources for a happy and healthy childhood? The DamYak Challenge fulfills both of these ideas, making it wonderfully fun. Let’s dig into what you can expect from the 2022 DamYak Challenge.
What is the DamYak Challenge?
In short, the DamYak Challenge is a morning of kayaking fun held on July 16th, 2022, in support of a great cause! The event is a 4.8-mile long kayak event (not a race) on the Fox River, following the scenic McHenry River Walk and Downtown Business District. The event starts at 8 am and runs until 10 am, registration beginning at 7 am. Online registration is open now, so be sure to join in on the fun! Don’t have a kayak? Don’t worry! The DamYak Challenge is open to all who’d like to participate, even those who don’t own a kayak. All Marine’s Retro Rentals offers rentals that can be used for the DamYak Challenge.
DamYak Challenge Rules
Participants must be at least 13 years old, and those under 18 years old must be accompanied by a legal guardian. To participate, be sure to register and submit the legal waiver, then wear the DamYak pin you’ll receive at registration for the duration of the event. Your safety is of premier importance, so life jackets are mandatory. No alcohol is allowed. Both kayaks and canoes are allowed, but either must be exclusively human-powered (non-motorized). Of course, be sure to exercise care and consideration for your fellow DamYak event participants by keeping a safe distance from other boats. Who Does the DamYak Challenge Support?
The DamYak Challenge not only provides fun for its participants but extends aid to children in need. It supports Kids In Need of McHenry County, a local organization that advocates and provides for kids in need. This organization is also not-for-profit, meaning you can trust their priorities are set to help the children at risk. Our youth are among the most vulnerable and impressionable members of our community, so we must ensure they get the support they need and deserve. You can support KIN’s mission by participating in the DamYak challenge or donating to Kids In Need of McHenry County directly.
